About Arctic Pixel Lab
Dear reader,
Arctic Pixel Lab started in the autumn of 2021 as a personal reading list. The person running it was spending two or three hours a week pulling science and technology stories from journal feeds, press offices, and specialist newsletters, then forwarding the best ones to a small group of colleagues in Tokyo. At some point the list got long enough that a proper site made more sense than a shared document.
The format settled into three rubrics because that is roughly how the reading naturally split: computing work, space and earth science, and life sciences. Eight stories per rubric felt like the right ceiling. More than that the feed becomes a chore to read; fewer and it misses things that matter. Every story gets its own page here with a write-up in plain English. The original reporting stays credited to the publication that did the work.

How this site works
- We write our own summaries of reports, papers, and announcements that have appeared in other publications during the past seven days. The original reporting belongs to those publications. Our write-ups are our own text, written from scratch after reading the source material. We do not reproduce paragraphs from the original.
- Stories are selected on the basis of whether they report a concrete finding or development. We do not cover funding announcements, opinion pieces, or predictions unless they are attached to a specific piece of new research. Each rubric is capped at eight stories per week.
- If a story we have covered is later corrected or retracted by the original publisher, we update our write-up and add a dated note at the top of the page. We do not silently edit published text. The original publication date stays visible.
- Publishers, researchers, or individuals who believe a write-up contains an error or should be removed can contact us at hello@arcticpixellab.com. We review every request within two business days and respond in writing.
Arctic Pixel Lab editors select stories based on their relevance to computing, artificial intelligence, space, earth science, life sciences, and medicine, with preference for items tied to published research, policy documents, or verifiable data.
Each article on this site is written by an Arctic Pixel Lab editor. The underlying reporting belongs to the publication credited in each story header; we summarise and contextualise it, we do not reproduce it.
